The pictures here show Alan Rigby of P&K Council and the Garbologists checking a covered landfill site for gases. The process depicted is water being pumped from the landfill (up to 30metres underground!) to be tested for various gases and chemicals. There are many old landfill sites like this around the country, and are almost impossible to detect, apart from the wooden marker posts and pipes leading to test sites. To find out more check out the Garbologists YouTube site and watch the film about Alan, its got some fascinating stuff about the testing methods!
